While the rest of the world contributes 50% to global death rates, only six countries produce the other half according to the UN Population Prospects. In 2023, the world saw nearly 62 million deaths, averaging about 7,000 per hour. China led with 1,334 deaths per hour, followed by India with 1,085. Combined, these two countries accounted for almost one-third of all global deaths.
