Spanish dominates South America, but its linguistic map tells a richer story

Spanish is the official language in most countries of the continent, with green marking the territory of Portuguese, namely Brazil. A new map visualisation reveals a striking linguistic trend across the United States: Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in 46 out of the 50 states, underscoring the growing influence of Hispanic communities across the country. Spanish dominates as the most prevalent second language in all but four states.
